Montclair church is a convert: Celebrating the completion of Hillside Square

The company that has designed the logos for the World Series and several Major League Baseball teams, a film and television production company co-founded by a former A&E executive, and a major designer of iPad applications are among the tenants of Hillside Square, the Hillside Avenue church-turned-office building celebrating its grand opening next week.

So is the First Church of Christ, Scientist, the original tenant of the 1926 church building at 8 Hillside Ave., which sold the property to Montclair residents and developers Bob Silver and Jay Schweppe for $2 million in April 2011, since the church no longer needed such a large space and was having difficulty keeping up with the maintenance.

Silver and Schweppe transformed the 23,000-square-foot structure into a dozen office suites and set aside 3,000 square feet for the congregation, which is also one of their renters.
