Academy Square is a proud partner of Studio Montclair Inc. (SMI), an organization whose mission is to promote culture and education in the visual arts and encourage emerging artists by providing gallery space. (www.studiomontclair.org) We are delighted to feature two SMI galleries at Academy Square:

SMI Gallery @ Academy Square, located on the building’s first floor, is SMI’s first gallery dedicated to the exhibition of artwork by established artist members. The gallery’s main purpose is to provide member artists with increased exposure via long-running shows in a professional venue. Central to the gallery’s mission is enriching Montclair and surrounding communities by providing a free and local venue for viewing notable and significant artwork by professional regional artists. The gallery mounts three shows each calendar year.
SMI Virginia S. Block Gallery, located on the second floor of Academy Square, provides visibility for emerging and underrepresented artist members of SMI. Established in 2003 to honor SMI co-founder and first president Virginia Shaffer Block, Academy Square has been the gallery’s home since 2010. Participating artists receive guidance in standard gallery procedures and professional matters such as pricing, presentation formats, contracts and insurance. The gallery mounts three shows each calendar year.
