Social Venture group focuses on school and housing needs

In its first year, Social Venture Partners Charlotte chose education and affordable housing as its priorities.

Based on its research committee’s recommendations, the local affiliate of the Seattle-based Social Venture Partners International opted to invest in a teacher-support program at East Mecklenburg High School and the Housing Forum 2007.

SVP Charlotte, formed in late 2005, recruits donors to pool their money, time and know-how to support local causes.

So far, SVP Charlotte has recruited 24 couples who’ve each agreed to invest $5,000 per year for at least two years. It aims to recruit 20 more couples this year.
